App privacy
Privacy, in plain language.
Muscatine IA Weather StormTeam is designed to provide useful weather information without requiring an account, advertising profile, or analytics profile. This policy explains what the mobile app uses, when it uses it, and the choices available to you.
Effective July 16, 2026Information you choose to use
- Precise location: only when you tap the location control and allow foreground location access. Coordinates are sent to the weather, map, and geocoding services needed to answer that request.
- Places and routes: the city or town search text, destination, route, and departure time you select for weather or travel planning. These requests are sent to the relevant weather, map, routing, or geocoding service.
- Planned events: the event name, place, date, time, duration, and event type you enter.
- Notification token: if you choose notification setup, the app sends an Expo push token to Expo to register the device for notifications and also stores a copy on your device.
What stays on your device
Selected places, saved event plans, notification preferences, and a local copy of the Expo notification token are kept in local app storage. They are used to restore features you chose and are not used to build an advertising profile. The token is also transmitted to Expo when you choose notification setup, as described below.
The app does not require a user account and does not include third-party advertising or an in-app analytics SDK.
Services that receive a request
Weather features need internet access. The app sends the selected coordinates, search text, route, or map area needed to answer your request to the relevant service:
- National Weather Service (NWS): observations, forecasts, watches, warnings, and advisories. NWS privacy information.
- Open-Meteo: place search and forecast data used by supported planning and route-weather features. Open-Meteo terms and privacy information.
- U.S. Census geocoding services: U.S. place and address search where used. U.S. Census privacy policy.
- Mapbox: maps, map tiles, map-session telemetry, and routing where used. Mapbox privacy policy.
- Iowa Environmental Mesonet: NEXRAD precipitation imagery used by the radar feature. Iowa State University privacy statement.
- Expo: device-notification registration when you choose optional notification setup. The Expo push token is sent to Expo for that registration. Expo privacy policy.
- Google Maps or Apple Maps: a destination or route only when you choose to open it in that map app. See the Google Privacy Policy or Apple Privacy Policy.
These providers may process technical request information under their own privacy policies. Muscatine IA Weather StormTeam does not use this information for cross-app tracking and does not sell personal information.
Optional permissions
Location
Location permission is optional. If you decline it, the app opens with Muscatine, Iowa, and you can search for a U.S. city or town. The app does not request continuous background location.
Notifications
Notification permission is optional. You can disable it at any time in your device settings. When you choose notification setup, the app may register the device with Expo and provide a one-time setup notification; it does not promise continuous background delivery of severe-weather alerts.
Your controls and retention
- Choose a place manually instead of sharing device location.
- Remove saved events in the app where that control is available.
- Turn notifications or location access off in device settings.
- Delete the app to remove information stored in its local app storage.
The app does not maintain a separate developer-operated account database. Standard access and security logs may be processed by the app's hosting provider. Other services may receive the request content, IP address, device or browser details, and timestamps needed to operate and protect their services.
Third-party retention follows each provider's policy. Open-Meteo states that free-service logs may be retained for up to 90 days, and Mapbox states that IP-address logs are generally deleted after 30 days. Those policies can change, so use the provider links above for current details.
Tracking and advertising
The app does not contain advertising, does not use data brokers, and does not use your activity to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. It does not request Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission.
Children's privacy
The app is a general-audience weather utility and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect account profiles from children.
Security and policy changes
We use platform protections and encrypted network connections where supported. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. If this policy changes materially, the effective date on this page will be updated.
